Frequently asked

Everything people ask, grouped by product.

If the answer you need is not here, contact us — it will be here afterwards.

01 — The cohort

The cohort

How large is a cohort?

Twelve people. It has been twelve since the first one, because critique in groups of four stops working above that.

When does the next one run?

Cohort 07 begins 11 January. After that, April. We run three a year and they are announced to the newsletter first.

Is it live or recorded?

Both. Two live sessions a week, recorded and posted within four hours, with replay access for two years.

What if I have to drop out?

Full refund through the end of week two. After that we roll your seat to the next cohort rather than refund it.

What is free and what is paid?

Free readers get the first half of every new issue and everything older than two weeks. Paid readers get the full issue immediately plus the complete archive.

How often does it arrive?

Thursdays, 7am Eastern, 148 weeks running.

Do you sell the list?

No, and there are no sponsorships either. The subscription is the entire revenue model.

What is actually inside?

Nine channels, a weekly critique, a monthly numbers night, 412 library documents and two meet-ups a year.

Is there a contract?

No. Monthly cancels at the end of the month; annual is refunded pro rata whenever you leave.

Can I join for one month to look around?

Yes, and a fair number of people do. There is also a permanently free Reader tier.

What license do I get?

Unlimited use for you and your clients, in perpetuity. You cannot redistribute or resell the files themselves.

Do I get updates?

Free updates for life on every product. The Operating Kit has shipped four major versions and every buyer has all four.

Refunds?

Thirty days, no questions, no need to delete the files.

05 — Accessibility and technical

Accessibility and technical

Are the sessions captioned?

Live sessions use automatic captions; recordings get a corrected transcript within a day.

Do your pages work with a screen reader?

They are built to WCAG 2.2 AA and tested with VoiceOver and NVDA. If you hit something broken, tell us and it gets fixed that week.

Do you support reduced motion?

Yes. Every animation on this site respects prefers-reduced-motion, including the scroll behavior.
